Inbound Students

The Rotary program is a genuine exchange program. When students are selected to participate overseas, a student from that country is approved for participation in the ESSEX area. Of all of the students approved by ESSEX in a year, a student from somewhere in the world will be assigned to the general geographic area (Rotary District) of the outbound atudent.

Inbound students are assigned to a particular Rotary Club and a counselor is named to maintain regular contact with the inbound student. Prior to student arrival, host families are identified and visited in their homes.

Each host family and each student is given an orientation and training on the expectations and requirements of the exchange program. During his or her time here, the student must attend school regularly, participate in periodic Rotary activities, be an active member of the family and community, and abide by the ESSEX Rules for exchange students. They will also be expected to make regular reports to theit sponsoring and host Rotary clubs.

The host families are asked to treat their exchange students as one of the family with all of the opportunities, responsibilities, and obligations that are a part of family membership. The hosting opportunity is a great part of the youth exchange program and allows families to experience other parts of the world through these youth ambassadors. Normally the family of an outbound student is asked to be available as a host family for an inbound student.
